After majoring in Fine Art at Catholic University in Washington, DC, I began my career as an illustrator and graphic designer. In 1991, I founded Farrell Design in Connecticut working with corporations and non-profit organizations to build brand identities and create marketing tools designed to help them achieve their strategic goals.

Recently, I began collaborating with my wife, Janis Hogan, to illustrate and design a few of the books she had been working on. We have produced a volume of essays, two children’s books and two books of poetry. These projects reminded me how much I had enjoyed using pen and paint to capture the beauty around me, especially as it relates to nature.

After moving to Saint Simons Island, GA in 2019, I began to recapture my love of drawing and painting. As an avid birder, kayak fisherman and nature lover, I’ve focused on depicting the beauty and natural wonders of the Golden Isles. Although watercolor is a new medium for me, I enjoy the spontaneity and surprises that happen with every painting.

I want my works to convey feelings rather than trying to replicate scenes or beings. Every subject I explore with paint is a moment or an image that resonates with me. My goal is to continue to grow technically and create art that gives the viewer an experience of what I see and feel, and hopefully, for that moment in time, be captivated by the wonders that surround us here every day.
